At the moment it is "To the Queen of darkness. May Samson's sacrifice not be in vain." But I am sure that it will change again, even before the new book comes out.
I love the discussion with Ceinwyn. It's a huge scene. I'm also really fond of the moment when KH meets his class and asks, "Which one of you lit the dog on fire?" It cracks me up.
So many to list, when Boomworm receives the glass sculpture from KH was sweet however trying to figure out what the 8 headed Dragon was still makes me chuckle.
I really enjoyed the scene where KH meets Boomwoorm's parents. His rep is already known among mancer types, so it's fun to see him make a new and awkward impression with regular folk every once and a while.
Must admit I cracked up when KH blew up a rival comic book store van, thinking they were asylum/were/vamp spies. Though for hard core emotional grunt, hard to go past the cage fight against Conan
I would have to go with the first meeting between King Henry and Heinrich. His planning out in his head was just to funny. Although the fight between Annie and King Henry when he sticks her with the artifact was pretty good. He was so desperately trying to save her...
How about the first fight with Annie B? Usually when the main character is totally outclassed by his first foe in a fic series it can be frustrating or turn the reader off b/c it seems unrealistic that one species/antagonist/protagonist hasn't wiped the other out already. But KH is just so brutal, that even a world class beat down by Annie B is more embarrassing and a sign that he has to up his game than a signal he's actually outclassed. There isn't all that whiny self reflection and self pity that a lot of series indulge themselves in when hero encounters unbeatable evil (except during Boomworm breakups, but everybody gets one).
Wow. Some realy good answers here. I have to agree with the, "but how do I pick?" sentiment. The Curator fight/conversion? Or where he meets The Lady for the first time? HK/BW take 3?
Not necessarily my favorite moment, but one of the most powerful for me was the end of Troubled Boomworm. That was the most messed up and well done Mindf*ck to end all Mindf*ck's that I have ever encountered. That was a twist that should have made M. Night Shyamalan wake up screaming because he could never do it so well. In fact it may have since his newest film Split actually looks interesting and so far I have not been disproven in my assertion that the only good MNS movies are one's starring Bruce Willis. Truly it was awesome and I just barely kept from shouting aloud and throwing my kindle at the wall when I realized what had happened right before KH stated it and then began vomiting.
Other than most of the stuff with Annie B (which is all gold), I'd say end of Troubled Bookworm, where he crawls his way to Miranda's doorstep, and their interactions amongst the madness of "Val/KPH, the sequel that's not really a sequel because the first time(s) never happened". (But then I'm a big Ginger Menace fan)
Would possibly have to go with Miranda's responses to KH's drunk-dials - not necessarily the best bits in the series, but certainly made me laugh the most.
Oh, and Annie B vs. Joanie D in book 1, just... because!
I really enjoyed the conversation between King Henry and Ceinwyn at the food court in the first collection of short stories. Sums up their relationship in a very concise, but complete manner that was both funny and endearing given how close they are. This is a small section, but I feel that those written in this same spirit are possibly your strongest... like the snippets between KHP and Miranda, or the argument between KHP and Josephine after the assassination attempt. Situations that have large amounts of character in a small number of words
Just went through one hell of a semester in college. The whole artificer thing may or may not have helped set me on the path of engineering during my senior year back in 2014 >_>. Anyways, this book is the biggest treat for my winter break. First meeting with Meteyos was my favorite. The description and realization of wings meant dragon had me shitting my pants. Always loved dragons, especially when they're treated with the awe they deserve. That scene captured it very well. A dragon also named after my favorite vacation spot (or vise versa) is just a plus.
My favorite is when you release the damn book. I swear writers or the meanest drug dealers ever. Book is done hit the damn button and then stop sleeping or having a live/family and give me my next book.
Probably any of the true Annie B moments like when she flashes embarrassment for eating off him after their fight in the first book, or when she ask him when their going to the Divines house if he'd save her. Always fun to have a character like her in books. Miranda moments like the camping trip or when he shows up on her steps are good to. Val moments for me are really boring and probably my least favorite. She's so accepting and witty with everything he does that it just makes her character dull to me. Meeting her parents was funny though.
The end of book 4. King Henry's "discussion" with Ceinwyn Dale is my fav.

ReplyDeleteThere are too many, so it's hard to pick just one. I get a chuckle out of Mini guarding KH when he crawls home battered and torn up.

ReplyDeleteLoved his rant against the universe in the RV.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to fights, the one with Annie B at the end of the headless hunny was my favorite so far.

ReplyDeleteI am a magic system guy- so my favorite parts are when the mancy is explained and you can see what each different mancer is capable of.

ReplyDeleteActually I'm pretty sure I did scream into my fist and then I had to get up and pace off the energy burst before I could finish the book.
DeleteThe cage fight, totally the cage fight. First glimpse of just how dangerous KH can be to anger.
ReplyDeleteso far... have to go with the wonderful manipulation of KH vs Christmas and making her loose her temper/power. So well done.

ReplyDeleteTwo-ish days to go (shakes fist) "damn you international dateline " going to reread 5 and three little trips in preparation for The Pit
ReplyDeleteSo many to choose from. The fight at the end of book 5, the lunchroom scene in 5.5, anything with Annie b.
ReplyDeleteNow please, please please... push the button already!

ReplyDeleteThe "thumb tip" conversation. Sweet.
