Watching, Playing, Reading #1

Everyone likes chatting about entertainment, right?

Watching:  Flash Season 3.  Yes, it's basically a soap opera, but it has superpowers!  Not enjoying this one as much as Season 2, Zoom and Earth Two being far better handled than Savitar and the Flashpoint seems to be (only halfway through).  Or maybe it's just that this is the first time I've binge watched on Netflix instead of using the DVR week to week.

Playing:  Hearts of Iron 4, Kaiserreich Mod.  Germany won WW1 and come 1936 the world is in even worse shape than what happened on Earth One.  Commies control France and the British Isles.  The royal family and nobility have fled to Canada.  The White Revolution was victorious in Russia and now sits on the edge of Imperialism.  Isolationist America is in political turmoil and readies itself for a second civil war!  Sound fun?  Yeah, its fun.  Might be better than the base game actually, or at least have more replayability.  One of the biggest faults of HoI 4 is that outside of Europe it's very stale and you really don't have enough manpower to get anything done.  Not so here.

Reading:  Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson, Stormlight Archives #2 Reread.  I enjoy Sanderson quite a lot, especially for his world-building inventiveness, maybe not as much as some of his hardcore fans (they scare me!), but I never miss a book of his for sure and have been reading them since Elantris first hit shelves back in 2005.  His BIG FETCHING(*Mormon approved curse words only) SERIES is the Stormlight Archives, a world with with highstorms, magic vapor swords, magic vapor iron-man armor, all sorts of other magic-by--talking-fairies thrown on top, and lots of crabs, giant enemy crabs!  His third book is coming out in November, with a smaller ancillary novel arriving early October, so I decided to do a reread on the last book, since it's been awhile and if you think you forget a lot of stuff between releases, try writing a few of your own novels between them and see how the ol' noggin keeps up.

And yes, I'm writing :-P

So...your turn now, what are you punks ingesting for your entertainment needs?

  2. Just finished re-reading KHT#5, Three Trips, and KHT#6. What next? Maybe re-read the Faith Hunter Jane Yellowrock novels. Partner is binging on E3 videos, so when gaming is mentioned, I want to stab my eyes out. (Just kidding!) Otherwise, I think, "I should be upstairs modeling." As in CGI modeling, it's my thing.

Watching...uh, whatever is on TiVo. Nothing special. I rather like the mindless Science channel documentary tidbits such as Unearthed and What on Earth? since Oak Island is not on again until fall. Yeah, lots of digging involved. Or maybe Agents of Shield binging...

Also writing: Two books on Amazon, a third ready for final polish-up and publication, along with a novella that follows just after in in the sequence. Have the outline done for Book IV, and am drafting a novel from the same universe, tangentially related. BUSY. Much fun busy.

  3. Reading--waiting for all my favorite authors to get their next novels released, sigh...

Watching--4 kids, 1 husband with TBI, and 6 csts do their best to drive me up a damn wall for the summer with their favorite games, like "how high can we stack the trashcan without emptying it before it all falls down" and "where can we hide all the plates and forks so Mom has to give up and buy new ones so there are enough for a single meal". And I'm having a minor heart attack cuz my external hard drive that contains my entire world (every picture from the last 10 years, all my writing projects, every document written, etc.) has decided to go belly up and I'm terrified of what it's going to cost me to recover data.

Playing--ha... What the hell is that? I do hear a lot of Fallout and NBA 2K17 going on in my kids' rooms, and they've been playing Sims4.

I need a new book to escape into soon...

  4. Overwatch, some Battlefield 1, and against my better judgement Mass Effect Andromeda. Love me some shoosting, and ME enough to give the latter a chance. I've been reading Priest and Thief by Mat Colville, after stumbling into his YouTube channel & the world of D&D earlier this year. Oh! Also started re-read Gaiman's Sandman after watching some American Gods... I think that show captures the nature of his work pretty well, so I'm slightly hyped about the idea of a Sandman series materializing from the ether some day.

  5. Watching - Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, ready for the next season of both. Also watching our UK political chaos evolve, with popcorn. Reading - The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman, and after that comes the Mongoliad series by Greg Bear and Neal Stephenson. Writing - my employer's Compliance policies and staff training based on the 4th EU Money Laundering Directive and various other official financial crime things in the global banking world. Yes my day job really is that exciting ...
