Seismic Semester Fan Survey

Going on three weeks, I assume a large number of people are starting to finish the book (71 ratings, 4.8 average, woohoo!), so let me throw out the same three questions I gave the beta readers (who can also answer here it they want, or maybe their opinion changed after a reread).

1.  Favorite Scene?

2.  Biggest Laugh?

3.  Favorite Single?

Q&A will be start of next month looks like!  Kinda in doctor/physio hell for the next week.  Am stealing the occasional feel good day to write, but not a lot.  And...I deleted about 1.5k words worth of work one night because I was unhappy with it...sigh.

  2. I was a beta reader so you already have my responses but I thought I'd add them here to add to the discussion. By the way, thank you for letting be a beta reader. It was by far the most fun I've had reading a new book in ages. The answers that I sent you originally haven't changed after my reread.

    1. My favorite scene was King Henry talking to Juliette after Welf's construct knocked her down. That showed incredible growth on King Henry's part and hit me straight in the feels. It's a really touching scene and a great payoff after spending so much time with them over the course of the novel.

    2. The biggest laugh was a three way tie between King Henry introducing Pocket and Jesus to Divjot, Miranda gagging KH in the office, and Valko saying that Sum Sum “You moan like a bitch in heat,” Valko abruptly put in" was hilarious because it was so unexpected. Great straight man.

    3. My favorite single was Olive.

  3. Hey Richard, I just realized your new book is out and rushed to consume it. I am sorry to hear of your health issues - your will is strong to battle through all that. The foreword makes it sound like the internet has been dickish to you for the delays, but I just wanted to tell you I bet the majority are like me - silent not commenting on the internet. Your books are one of my favorite series and I've re-read your whole foul mouth set of books four times now. So I am just grateful that you've given me so many hours of meditation and happiness. The world can be a harsh place sometimes - I wish you the best with your recovery.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. I want to make it clear that the fans have been extremely considerate and super understanding. I'm just very aware of how aggressive some (specifically fantasy) readers get with the issue because of the trio of high profile authors who have had struggles and wanted to explain my own issues so everyone would understand.

    2. Personally I find being able to follow your news and interact on here is really interesting - means we know what's going on in your life and can appreciate the struggles and work that go into your writing. Also the teasers are good entertainment between books!

Out of interest, I assume Messrs. Rothfuss and Martin are two of the trio, but who is the third?

    3. Hmmm, haven't come across those. Although not sure I want to start if it's another unfinished series...!

    4. Funnily enough, Locke Lamora has the same structure as the King Henry Tapes with two timelines told alternating. Seeing some of the trouble Lynch had by his third book with keeping his "school" timeline interesting compared against the main story played into my decision to not keep mine past its welcome date, which is why we're wrapping things up in WTEAW.

  4. So I've been thinking about this since you posted it. Really trying to figure out my final opinions and I think I got it.
1: The speech King Henry gives and the rallying he does when the Singles return from the Camping Trip. It shows King Henry being the leader he has to be for what is to come.
2: Biggest laugh is .....I was going to consider the entire segment where he's guiding the Singles around, but that's a bit too long so I will say it was Miranda's actions when Juliette did her presentation. Everything from the mancy causing her to be jealous against Juliette to trying to not acknowledge not being over her crush on King Henry. Just such a break of her character it was hilarious.
3: And I'll fall under the same agreement as everyone and say Olive is the best Single. I'd still rather stick with being stuck deciding between Olive, Summer, and Juliette, but if I have to pick one it's our little Pimiento Loaf.
