Ask away. Might take a day or two for me to respond when real life gets in the way, but I'll try to be quicker than that. Obviously I expect most questions to be about the new book, but if you have something else, go for it. I, as always, reserve the right to throw out some RAFOs when needed.
So are we allowed multiple questions? Cause if so, I'll put them in order of what matters.
ReplyDelete1: How common are variations/specialties with the Mancy? Sigrid's an inversion, Olivia's got her connection to Necro anima, Susan has her odd connection, Vicky's considered to be abnormally talented at anima aura viewing, etc. Some have excuses, like King Henry, Ceinwyn, and all who are Maximi ...Maximuses ....however it's pluralized, but it seems like something that'd be talked about more if it were as common as it seems.
2: On the scale of importance to the Hydro Dragon, where does Max stand? The Mississippi water fairy really wanted him to get trained, but Strange actually talked to it.
3: Who is the Single that you care the least about in Seismic Semester? Not your most disliked, but the one you just went "Eh, fuck 'em" to.
Last thing, it's cool you're doing this. Show's a nice bit of fan interaction so thank you.
1. Olive and Susan specifically are no different than King Henry and Plutarch focusing on metal/artifacts and stone/fairies (ignoring what being a Maximus does to KH). They are simply variations within necromancy, ones that aren't viewed as preferable by the elite of their disciplines. With geomancy you'd merely be called a sand specialist or a gold specialist, etc, but necromancers are fixated on Constructs because of the power they represent, especially Moira and Mordecai.
DeleteVicky rolled a d20 about 100 times in a row on her Elemental Awareness. She's a pinnacle of the ability in a discipline already known for being one of the best at it.
Inverted is a rare type I didn't want to get into until later in the series, since there's so much info here I didn't want to overwhelm everyone. I just keep trying to dole it out little by little. Realistically would it all be up front in the world? Probably, but...all of your brains would be mush if I did that!
2. Evelyn has NOT talked to Tiamyet. :)
3. I mean...the Christopi are just a Marvel actor joke to fill out the 30 kids I needed to hit, so probably them.
....okay, fair point about Strange talking to Tiamyet. Thanks for correcting me on that.
DeleteJust as a side note, it'd be interesting to see, once the series is over and even though the tapes kind of act like it, a book of King Henry's guide to the Mancy. Just his comments on the different types, which we all know would be douchebag showoffs and such, and the other things would be funny to read.
More work? Bah!
DeleteMore work after all the other work is done. Reward for a job well done and all that nonsense.
DeleteWe get a running commentary of KH's view of all of the mancy types and variations in every book. 😂 The work lands back on the reader to simply reread and catalog it mentally--the author deserves a break!
DeleteSo... I am going to be "that guy" and ask questions that go further back in the series (because I just finished my complete re-read).
ReplyDelete1. From "Pit of No Return," do we ever find out the name of the 13th elemental race? (i.e, "Sawaephim, Fyretaez," etc.)
2. Also from "Pit," will we ever find out what Mini-Meta is doing with those Dr. Pepper cans?
Yes- those are the MOST important questions anyone could ever ask.
3. Unfair question, so feel free to ignore it... Which book of the series is your favorite?
As always, thanks Boss, for sharing your world and your words with us.
1. Necro-anima has...a unique history, that's all I can say for now.
Delete2. Left behind at the Nerd Nirvana, alas, might be a while before we get back to it. Granted, life at the Asylum will provide new avenues of theft for our gnome.
3. FM8. You're all going to lose you minds. :)
So who did strange talk to in her dream towards the end of the ever changing dilemma?
ReplyDeleteI think it was a fair correction for me to point out Tiamyet is used in the third person, but I'm not just ruining the fun for people. Give it a reread or twenty, think it over. Or, Read and Find Out.
